Utility of the carbohydrate larval antigen (CarLA®) saliva test to lower the risk of gastrointestinal parasitism in Ontario sheep flocks

Lead Applicant: Andrew Peregrine

Research Priority: Animal Health & Welfare

Program Type: Tier 1

Funding Cycle: 2021/2022

Research Centre: NA

Research Summary: Parasite infection is a common and production-limiting challenge many sheep producers face while ewes are out on pasture. This project looks to expand on previous work completed at the University of Guelph related to a new technology that can select sheep with a higher immunological tolerance to this infection. The team will evaluate the utility of this technology (referred to as the CarLA® Saliva Test) on the ability to select parasite-resistant sheep and offspring.
