(Internal) Untargeted metabolomics analysis of mycotoxin detoxification strategies

Advisor: Jennifer Geddes-McAlister, Molecular and Celular Biology and David Overy, Agriculture and Agri-food Canada

Proposed UoG co-advisor: TBC

In response to external stimuli, including deadly mycotoxins produced by fungal pathogens during invasion, wheat and other cereal crops modify their metabolomes to adapt to the threat. The Geddes-McAlister lab has performed in vitro metabolomics analysis on wheat inoculated with a fungal mycotoxin. The project will involve analysis and interpretation of the data from MS1 and MS2 measurements for the identification of plant metabolites that change in response to the host.

This is a one-semester project.
