Muhammad Talha Sadaqat is the recipient of the 2024 Ian Pavlinic Memorial Award for Innovation Co-op Student of the Year in Computing. This award recognizes a co-op student in the School of Computer Science who has demonstrated innovation and collaboration, and made a positive impact during their work term. Sadaqat, a fifth-year Bachelor of Computing, Computer Science co-op student was nominated by his supervisor at Deloitte, for his exceptional 8-month work term with the Tax Gi3 Team. Sadaqat worked on the scientific research and development reports, which played a crucial role in securing
Two University of Guelph physics students, Michaela Hishon and Emma Greenall, attended CAP’s Canadian Conference for Undergraduate Women & Gender Minorities in Physics (CCUW*iP) held at University of Calgary from January 31st to February 2, 2025. Emma Greenall, a 4th year nanoscience student, got an honourable mention for her oral presentation and Michaela Hishon, a 4th year Biological and Medical physics student, won first place for her oral presentation.
Congratulations to Michaela and Emma!
Alexa Bates, a fourth year Environmental Engineering student, was recently recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25—a prestigious honor that speaks volumes about her impact. She is passionate about driving sustainability and creating change through student-led initiatives. She believes that engineering students have the power to solve pressing environmental challenges and inspire meaningful action within their communities.
The 75th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) was held at the Palais des Congrès located in downtown Montréal, Canada from August 18th to August 23th this year. Two University of Guelph graduate students in the Department of Chemistry won poster awards.
At the International Symposium on Electrochemistry and Surface Science (ISESS) in Honour of Jacek Lipkowski's 80th Birthday, held from August 14th to August 17th at the University of Guelph, six U of G CEPS students won notable awards.
Student Oral Presentation Winners:
Stephen Tatarchuk, graduate student in the Department of Chemistry, won 1st place in Section 1 for a presentation on Insight into Catalyst Activity for the Electrooxidation of Ammonia from Linear Scaling Relations and Microkinetic Modeling.
Shaiza Hashmi, Computer Science student in the College of Engineering & Physical Sciences was awarded the Brian D. Sullivan Student Leadership Award from Student Experience. This award is presented to a graduating student who has made significant contributions to student leadership through their involvement as an elected or appointed student representative at the University of Guelph.
Nicholas van Heijst, Physics PhD student working with Dr. John Dutcher, was chosen top three best student oral presentations for his talk at the recent Nano Ontario Conference at Western University held on June 18-19.
