Please join us in congratulating our MCB Award recipients for 2017. All will all be recognized at the CBS Awards Event in November.

Graduate Awards:

Love Sandhu - Roche Molecular Biochemicals Award of Excellence ($500)

Awarded to a graduate student registered in Molecular and Cellular Biology who has presented the best graduate seminar (MCB*6500/*7500) during the academic year. 

Claire Martin & Sarah Timpano - Donald R. Phillips Molecular & Cellular Biology Scholarship (2 x $4,250)

Awarded to a student in the Molecular Biology and Genetics graduate program who has made significant contributions to research and academic achievement at the graduate level.

 

Undergraduate Awards:

Sara Matthews & Kenna Whitnell - Analytical Biochemistry Award (2 x $500)

Awarded to the student(s) with the highest grade in BIOC*3570 (Fall & Summer semesters).

Tinya Wang - Kenneth James Berg Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

Awarded to a Microbiology student who excels in all aspects of the 3rd co-op work term.

Sabrina Glavota - Chemical Institute of Canada Prize (CIC) Silver Medal in Biochem (silver medal)

Awarded to a student enrolled in the Biochemistry Honours or Co-op Program who has completed a minimum of 15 credits with the highest cumulative average.

Lorian Fay - GIBCO/BRL Microbiology Research Excellence Award ($500)

Awarded to an undergraduate student who has produced and presented the best all round research project in MCB*4500 and/or MCB*4510.

Megan Connor & Sabrina Glavota - Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth F. Gregory Scholarship (2 x $1,000)

Awarded on the basis of significant volunteer participation.

In the event of a tie, the award will go to the student with the highest cumulative average.

Michael Jones & Julia Steckner - Honours Biochemistry Scholarship (2 x $500)

Awarded to the student(s) enrolled in the Biochemistry Honours or Co-op Program who have completed a minimum of 10 credits with the highest cumulative averages.

Sabrina Glavota - Dr. R.A.B. Keates Biochemistry Scholarship ($1,000)

Awarded to the student with the highest cumulative average in the required Biochemistry courses. This award may be held only once. Application is not required.

Emily Mercer - Pharmacia & Upjohn Award in Microbiology ($500)

Awarded to a B.Sc. Microbiology major who has completed the 7th semester level with the highest cumulative average in those core courses offered by the Department of Microbiology.

Dibanos Fantessa - H.O. Shackleton Memorial Scholarship ($500)

Awarded to a student graduating in the B.Sc. Microbiology (major or minor) and planning to pursue graduate studies in Microbiology at a recognized university.

Sabrina Glavota - Frances Sharom Biochemistry Scholarship ($1,000)

The student registered in the Biochemistry major in the Bachelor of Science who is the recipient of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) Silver Medal in Biochemistry.

Laura Templehagen - Shutt Memorial Scholarship ($500)

Awarded to a student enrolled in the B.Sc. Microbiology major.  Awarded on the basis of the highest cumulative average achieved over the 6 semester levels of the program.

Caitlin Sande - Society of Chemical Industries Prize in Biochem (1-year subscription to SCI magazine)

Awarded to the students who have convocated from the Biochemistry Honours program or the Biochemistry Co-op program during the fall or winter semesters or will be convocating in the summer of the current academic year with the highest cumulative average.

Kurt Shroeter - Dr. R.M.W. Stevenson Microbiology Scholarship ($1,000)

Students registered in the Microbiology major of the Bachelor of Science program who have completed a minimum of 15.0 credits, including all the 2000 and 3000 level microbiology and biochemistry courses required for the major.

 

Recipients for the Fall awards listed below will be determined later this year.

Pharmacia MCB Graduate Award ($500)

Awarded to an M.Sc. or Ph.D. Microbiology graduate student who has presented the best poster at a scientific meeting during the academic year.

Robert Orr Lawson 2nd Year In-course Microbiology Scholarship ($3000 over 3 years)

Awarded to a student with a minimum 80% average in the B.SC. program at the completion of the first two semesters of study who has declared a Microbiology major and has the highest cumulative average, providing that the average grade is 80% or greater for 5 credits.

Robert Orr Lawson 3rd Year In-course Microbiology Scholarship ($2000 over 2 years)

Awarded to a student with a minimum 80% average in the B.SC. program at the completion of the first four semesters of full-time study (10 credits) who has declared a Microbiology major and has the highest cumulative average, providing that the average grade is 80% or greater.
