Workshop Offerings
Workshop #1: Introduction to Structural Equation Modeling
May 30, 31, and June 1
University of Guelph,
Macdonald Stewart Hall, Room 311A
Workshop #2: Intermediate Structural Equation Modeling
June 13, 14, and 15
University of Guelph,
Macdonald Stewart Hall, Room 311A
For the fourth year, we will be offering a workshop on structural equation modeling. Once again, the workshops are sponsored by the Department of Marketing and Consumers Studies in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph.
This year we have split our five day workshop into two three day workshops that will run from 9 am to 4:30 pm each day. This allows us to deliver more content while at the same time providing you with better flexibility with scheduling and choice.
Workshop Topics
Workshop #1: Introduction to Structural Equation Modeling
In the first workshop we will explore the following topics:
- Path modeling
- Confirmatory factor analysis
- Latent variable structural equation modeling
- Mediation and moderation with latent variable SEM and path models
- Multi-group modeling
Workshop #2: Intermediate Structural Equation Modeling
In the second workshop we will explore the following topics:
- Measurement invariance testing with continuous indicators
- Multi-level structural equation modeling
- Latent class analysis
- Latent growth modeling
For each topic we will spend some time discussing theory but will mostly focus on the hands-on application of the technique. We will use broad examples and/or generic examples in order to cover a number of disciplines in both the social and behavioural sciences.
Handouts will be provided at the seminar. Data will also be provided for each day so that participants may apply the concepts in practice.
For both workshops, we will be using the software Mplus version 7.11. Prior knowledge of Mplus is not necessary. The software will be available on the lab computers for participants to use during the seminar. If you have your own laptop with the Mplus 7.11 Combination Add-On software, you are welcome to use it.
It will be assumed that you have some familiarity with multivariate techniques (i.e. regression, mediation, etc.) and a basic conceptual understanding of latent variables and path modeling.
For 2 hours after each day (4:30 pm – 6:30 pm), we will also be hosting a session where we will help you work with your own data on topics covered during workshop. We will be providing a sign-up sheet for this so that we can be sure to give you the time you need.
