  6. Research Ethics Office

The Research Ethics Office (REO) is responsible for the ethical oversight of human participants involved in research, using a customer service approach within the constraints of regulatory requirements. Any research project involving human participants (or their data/biological materials), whether funded or not, must receive REB approval by one of the Research Ethics Boards prior to commencement.

EthOS Hub

About the Research Ethics Office

The Research Ethics Office provides administrative support to the REB and works with researchers to ensure their human participant research is held to the highest ethical standards and complies with applicable policies, guidelines and regulations.

Research Ethics Board

The University of Guelph (U of G) is committed to the responsible and ethical conduct of research. The U of G Research Ethics Board (REB) reviews research involving human participants to ensure the rights and welfare of these participants are protected and respected.

All human participant research, whether funded or unfunded, conducted by researchers at or under the auspices of the U of G must be reviewed and approved by the REB before its commencement.

The REB maintains an arms-length relationship with the University of Guelph and operates independently to review, approve, reject, or propose modifications to research projects.
