The University Secretariat is located on the 4th floor of the University Centre. To reach us take the south elevator (closest to the bus loop) to the 4th floor, when you exit the elevator turn right and walk down the hallway with windows. The University Secretariat is at the end on the right.

Genevieve (Gen) Gauthier-Chalifour

As University Secretary, Gen serves as the most senior adviser on governance issues within the University. In this capacity, Gen leads the overall operation of the University Secretariat, Board of Governors, University Senate, Privacy Office and Student Judicial Services. A member of the University's senior leadership team, she provides advice with respect to board and academic governance considerations, policy and related strategy. She also serves as chief privacy officer and is responsible for oversight and administration of the University's privacy and records management programs.

Gen holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master of Arts (Leadership) from the University of Guelph, and the Chartered Director designation from McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business.

Gen is vice-chair of the Canadian University Boards Association, and is also a member of the Council of Ontario University Secretaries and the Institute of Corporate Directors. She also serves as a member of the Leadership Committee for the United Way of Guelph Wellington Dufferin. 

Ted Cogan

Ted has University-wide responsibility for access to information, privacy and records management leadership, policy and education and serves as the University's Judicial Officer with responsibility for academic and non-academic appeal tribunals. Ted also provides research and leadership for major projects undertaken by the Board of Governors, Senate and University Secretariat, including the ongoing Board and Senate governance reviews.

Ted has a BA (Hons.) and MA in history from Western University and a PhD in history from the University of Guelph. 

His published work focuses on the role of public engagement in policy development. He has spoken widely on this topic, including at Global Affairs Canada and the Aga Khan Foundation. 

Joanne Emeneau

Associate University Secretary (Senate)

As Associate University Secretary, Joanne provides governance support and guidance to Senate and its standing committees. In this capacity, Joanne provides information and advice on Senate policies, precedents, procedures and protocol, and serves as the first point of contact for Senators and University community members affected by the work of Senate. Joanne also supports the policy project, advising members of the university community on policy best practices and centralizing Board and Senate-approved policies.

As Associate University Secretary, Vivek provides advice and support to the University of Guelph’s Board of Governors and its standing committees in support of their governance and oversight of the University.

A lawyer by training, Vivek holds a Bachelor of Laws from Pondicherry University, India. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada.

Prior to joining the University of Guelph, Vivek worked with Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, where he was Corporate Secretary and then Principal, Corporate Oversight and Governance. Vivek has also served as Assistant Corporate Secretary at Maple Leaf Foods and held governance roles with BMO Financial Group and Oakville Enterprises Corporation (formerly Oakville Hydro).

Madeleine Krucker

As Manager, Information Governance & Compliance, Madeleine has university-wide responsibility for records management and privacy policy, and for ensuring that U of G upholds its obligations under provincial and federal records management, access to information and privacy legislation.

Madeleine Krucker is an information professional with a Master of Information in archives and records management, and critical information policy studies from the University of Toronto. She is passionate about the generation and dissemination of information through technology. Her focus includes the intersectionality of privacy with archival concepts, recordkeeping, and policy. She has experience working in archives, records management and data governance within the public and private sectors. Madeleine is an alumni of the University of Guelph, having completed her undergraduate studies in history and political science in 2018.

Stephanie Day

Stephanie provides leadership and support for the administrative, financial, human resources and IT functions of the University Secretariat. Stephanie also supports the work of the Board of Governors and Senate, in particular by providing project management support, strategic advice and administering elections for both bodies. In addition, Stephanie provides administrative and professional support to the University Secretary.

Stephanie has a BA in sociology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a diploma in Advertising from Loyalist College.
