Management and non-management factors determining soybean yield potential in Ontario

Lead Applicant: Hugh Earl

Research Priority: Competitive Production Systems

Program Type: Tier 1

Funding Cycle: 2021/2022

Research Centre: Ontario Crop Research Centre- Elora & Woodstock

Research Summary: Soybeans are Ontario's number one field crop both in terms of acreage and value of production. Modern soybean varieties have the genetic potential to produce very high yields, but it is seldom achieved in practice, and the fundamental restrictions impacting yield in Ontario are poorly understood. An understanding of environmental and physiological yield constraints in Ontario is required to maximize economic returns and the environmental sustainability of production practices. This project aims to better define factors that restrict soybean yield potential in Ontario, aiding growers to produce higher yields of this valuable crop.
