Jonathan Munn

Jonathan Munn is an Assistant Professor with Water Resources Engineering and Principal Investigator with the Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute. He obtained his B.Sc. in Geology from Laurentian University and worked briefly in the mineral exploration industry before obtaining his M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Guelph focused on fractured rock hydrogeology. He has over 14 years of experience conducting field research in fractured rock aquifers, with a focus on 3-D fracture network characterization, advancing novel sensor-based technologies for measuring active fracture flow, and refining lithostratigraphy and hydrostratigraphy using high-resolution datasets. A major research theme is the application of fibre optic distributed temperature sensors (DTS) to measure groundwater flow in-situ. He has extensive experience working in the Silurian dolostone aquifer in the Guelph region and has conducted field research at over a dozen field sites across 3 countries collaborating with private and public sector partners. He is the PI of an active NSERC Discovery Grant to study the bedrock flow system around an actively pumped bedrock quarry in the City of Guelph. His research has practical applications for contaminated site investigations and municipal source water protection.
