Happy Pride U of G - A statement from the AVP

Wishing LGBTQ2IA+ students, faculty, and staff at the University of Guelph a very happy Pride month! Celebrating Pride is about recognizing the importance of love, acceptance, perseverance and inclusion. Over the next 30 days, folks around the world will join together to acknowledge  the remarkable contributions made by members of the LGBTQ2IA+ community to our society.

While this is a time to recognize the rich culture of the community, it’s also a time to reflect on the challenges and barriers many members still face. Let’s also remember that the barriers created by homophobia and transphobia are compounded for many, by other systems of oppression. There is more work to do. So as we celebrate Pride this year, let’s commit to working hard to ensure the LGBTQ2IA+ community can live without fear of violence, hatred or persecution.

We all have a collective responsibility to cultivate supportive and welcoming environments where everyone is respected and has the opportunity to succeed. Because at the U of G, our diversity is our strength.

 Happy Pride U of G!
