AVP's Statement on Recent Racist Attack in London, Ont.
The recent killing of four members of a Muslim family in London, Ontario is shocking and deeply troubling. Hatred, racism and discrimination have no place in Canada. This horrific act reminds us that we must all do our part to combat hate and intolerance in our daily lives.
I want you to know, that we mourn with members of our U of G community, and stand with Muslims across Canada during this difficult time. I offer our sincere condolences and support to the family of the victims and the members of our campus family who may be feeling particularly vulnerable.
Islamophobia and all forms of hatred have no place at the University of Guelph. We must all do our part to combat discrimination and create safe, equitable, and inclusive spaces for students, faculty, and staff at our institution. At the U of G, our diversity is our strength. Together we will create a strong culture of understanding, respect and belonging for all members of our community. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy.
