Student Health and Dental Plans Fall 2021 - Important Information and Deadlines

Posted on Friday, August 6th, 2021

On behalf of the Graduate Students’ Association, we are looking forward to the upcoming Fall 2021 semester.  We hope everyone continues to remain safe and healthy over the coming academic year!

Contained in this post is very important information regarding your Student Health and Dental insurance Plans. Please read carefully and mark the dates down on your calendar and if necessary, contact a family member who may handle your alternative coverage.   Please note, the Health Plan is a mandatory universal plan and as such does not provide an opt-out; the Dental Plan offers a one-time opt-out with proof of alternate coverage.

The Health and Dental Plans provide coverage to all full-time graduate students at the University of Guelph and covers a variety of prescriptions and procedures. To find out what your coverage provides, please visit:

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH

New eligible full-time graduate students who start in September will be automatically enrolled in both the Health and Dental Plans by mid to late October (approximately 45 days from the start date of their program).

IF YOU ARE RETURNING

Only full-time graduate students are eligible for plan enrolment. Part-time graduate students are not covered under the plan. If your registration status is not full-time for Fall 2021, regardless of what your registration status was the prior benefit year, you will not be assessed the fee and will not be eligible for the plan.

Returning eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Health and Dental Plans. However, if you successfully opted out of the Dental Plan last benefit year, your opt-out will carry forward and you will not be assessed the Dental Plan fee.
