Summary:

We examine the levers of control framework in the context of managing projects. Using data gathered from 113 project managers representing 38 organizations we explore the impact of diagnostic system, interactive system, beliefs system and boundary system on project performance. The data suggest that the interactive system is positively related to project performance. Interactive system fully mediates the effect of project diagnostic system on project performance. In addition, beliefs system is associated with other control levers. The conclusions support the current emphasis on performance reporting and change control and highlight the need to consider the interdependencies between control levers.
