Board of Governors Bylaw No. 2 - Terms of Appointment of Members
A Bylaw respecting Terms of Appointment for Members of the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph. (known as Bylaw#2)
Be it enacted as a Bylaw of the Board of Governors, University of Guelph that:
The Board’s composition of not more than 24 members shall consist of,
a) the President appointed by the Board; and
b) the Chancellor elected by Senate; and
c) four persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council; and
d) ten persons appointed by the Board; and
e) three members of the Faculty elected by the Senate; and
f) two members of the Staff elected by the staff, one of whom is a graduate of the University; and
g) three students, one of whom will be a graduate student elected by the graduate students, and, two of whom will be undergraduate students elected by the undergraduate students.
At least three persons appointed to the Board under the provisions of c) or d), above, will be graduates of the University.
2. Chancellor and President and Board Chair
a) The Chancellor and President shall be members of the Board for as long as s/he shall hold office.
b) The Chair shall be elected from among the Board Members for such period as may be determined by the Board. This service may be in addition to the normal term of office for a Board Member.
3. Term of Office
a) Members per Section 1. Subsections c) to g) shall serve terms which normally end on June 30th in a year named at such time of appointment or election.
b) Members per Section 1. Subsections c) to f) shall normally hold office for a term of three-years and shall be eligible for reappointment or re-election, as the case may be, for one additional consecutive term.
c) Members per Section 1. Subsection g) shall normally hold office for a term of one year and shall be eligible for re-election for a total of three consecutive one year terms.
d) The Board may appoint a member for a term of less than three years to provide for staggered terms and continuity.
This Bylaw shall come into effect on the day it is enacted by the Board. PASSED this 15th day of June, 2011.
