Bioinformatics faculty members, Dr. Leonardo Susta and Dr. Wei Zhang, were among those awarded for projects designed to support the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigate its impacts.
Dr. Wei Zhang, a UofG Bioinformatics faculty member who is an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, is part of a team that will use protein engineering technology to find new treatments for COVID-19.
Bioinformatics faculty member, Dr. Angela Canovas (Department of Animal Biosciences), is one of five early-career researchers awarded 2019 Research Excellence Awards from the University of Guelph.
Her research aims to improve the beef industry through efficient livestock feeding that reduces methane emissions. By identifying pertinent genes, she will help producers breed their herds for more efficient, less emissive cattle.
Congratulations to Dr. Anjali Silva (Ph.D. Bioinformatics, 2018) on receiving a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) fellowship! Dr. Silva also got accepted into Vector Institute's artificial intelligence affiliate program.
