BINF faculty among those helping the COVID-19 fight

Dr. Wei Zhang, a UofG Bioinformatics faculty member who is an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, is part of a team that will use protein engineering technology to find new treatments for COVID-19.

Congratulations to 2019 Research Excellence Awards recipient, Dr. Angela Canovas

Bioinformatics faculty member, Dr. Angela Canovas (Department of Animal Biosciences), is one of five early-career researchers awarded 2019 Research Excellence Awards from the University of Guelph.

Her research aims to improve the beef industry through efficient livestock feeding that reduces methane emissions. By identifying pertinent genes, she will help producers breed their herds for more efficient, less emissive cattle.

CIHR Postdoc Award

Congratulations to Dr. Anjali Silva (Ph.D. Bioinformatics, 2018) on receiving a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) fellowship! Dr. Silva also got accepted into Vector Institute's artificial intelligence affiliate program.

Bioinformatics faculty among 2019 CEPS faculty award recipients

Several members of our bioinformatics faculty have been recently recognized for their excellence in teaching as well as for undergraduate and graduate supervision.

Congratulations to Dan Ashlock for being awarded the CEPS Excellence in Undergraduate Research Supervision Award. Dan additionally makes significant contributions to graduate-level education, through teaching, supervision, and serving on the Bioinformatics Steering Committee.

Classification Society Distinguished Dissertation Award 2019

Dr. Anjali Silva (Ph.D. Bioinformatics, 2018) is the recipient of the 2019 Classification Society Distinguished Dissertation Award. This award is for the dissertation that presents a substantial contribution to the area of classification and cluster analysis. Congratulations, Anjali!
