Ayoola Makinde, a future Computer Science MSc student, has been awarded a Food from Thought Research Assistantship. This prestigious award was presented for Ayoola’s outstanding academic achievement along with his strong interest and commitment to research and entrepreneurialism in equitable sustainable agriculture.

With funding from the Food from Thought Research Assistantship, Ayoola will be working on an exciting new research project, Animal-Computer Interaction in Animal Farming Contexts, headed by his MSc Advisor Dr. Stacy Scott. According to Ayoola, “My research combines my strong interests in the technical areas of Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Vision and Animal-Computer Interaction to develop improved systems that address health and welfare concerns of farm livestock, such as pigs and cattle.”

Ayoola’s research will be conducted in collaboration with animal behaviour and welfare researchers on the University of Guelph campus with the aim of understanding animal health and welfare concerns, while creating new IoT and Machine Vision technologies to address them.

Congratulations Ayoola! We look forward to seeing you this Fall!
