Dylan Loker, a Master of Computer Science Student, attended the 31st Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence at York University in May 2018 with his supervisor, Dr. Yang Xiang to present a paper from their research group. In this category, Dylan won the Best Paper Award. Dylan used funding from a School of Computer Science (SoCS) Travel Grant to attend this conference.

At the Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Yang Xiang and Dylan Loker were presented the Best Paper Award for their paper, De-Causalizing NAT-Modeled Bayesian Networks for Inference Efficiency. The paper was focused on a new method developed for improving the time efficiency of processing information in a Bayesian network, a common method for representing knowledge in an intelligent system.

Attending the conference provided Dylan the chance to observe talks from industry leaders, established academics and others who published research on intelligent systems. According to Dylan, “The experience of attending a conference was new for me, and I was very nervous to present our work in front of an audience of knowledgeable academics. However, everything turned out fine, and I had an enjoyable experience overall attending the conference!”

The School of Computer Science would like to extend their congratulations to Dylan for receiving a SoCS Travel Grant Award and for winning Best Paper Award at the Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence!
