Over the weekend of March 19th and 20th, Roboticon, our robot-building and programming challenge, entered its 15th year at the University of Guelph.

Roboticon is an annual event run in partnership with the Society of Computing and Information Science (SOCIS) and the School of Computer Science. It is an exciting opportunity for high school students to learn more about the field of computer science by designing and building LEGO Mindstorms robots to complete a series of challenges designed by our undergraduate students. Under strict rules and time limits, teams of students are challenged to build and program robots by sharpening teamwork skills and performing set tasks against a field of competitors.

The event provides young high school students with the opportunity for practical application and demonstration of math, programming and engineering skills, as well as promoting teamwork, collaboration and sportsmanship.

This year, we had 33 teams from schools across Ontario participate in the robotics challenge. This years theme was Star Wars. Congratulations to the top three winning teams:

First Place: Team Almost, Joshua Voskamp Academy

Second Place: Listowel District Secondary School

Third Place: KWCHEA

We extend our congratulations to all teams and a sincere thank you to our student volunteers and judges. Please stay tuned for Roboticon 2017 on March 18th and 19th, 2017.
