Over the weekend of September 15-17th 2017, students from the School of Computer Science attended Hack the North, Canada's largest hackathon. The event brought over 1000 emerging developers and designers and over 300 mentors to the University of Waterloo for the 36-hour competition. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in attendance to open the event on Friday evening.

The students spent the weekend designing hardware projects or mobile/web applications and presented them to industry experts on Sunday morning. School of Computer Science student Keefer Rourke worked on a 'grep for images', which allows users to search for text snippets within images that works on both macOS and Linux. Students Dema Abu Adas and Bilal Ayash worked on a Rock-Paper-Scissors hack using computer vision and won the Qualcomm Challenge for their design.

Congratulations to Keefer, Dema and Bilal!
