Congratulations to School of Computer Science PhD Candidate, A.N.K. Zaman, and co-authors Dr. Charlie Obimbo, and Dr. Rozita Dara for winning 2nd Prize Technical Paper Award at the third IEEE Canada International Humanitarian Technology Conference. The conference was held this year at Ryerson University and highlighted research from around the world that seeks to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Their winning paper, entitled "An Improved Differential Privacy Algorithm to Protect Re-identification of Data", was motivated by the need to improve security and personal privacy during the data sharing process; a process that is extremely important for data mining and data-driven decision-making efforts. As described in their paper, they have developed an algorithm to address the security and personal privacy issues that works by sanitizing raw data to its anonymous form while maintaining the integrity of the raw data as much as possible.

The research will be published in the forthcoming conference proceedings.
