Amanda Semenuk receives a Young Scientist Fellowship

Congratulations to Amanda Semenuk, MSc student in the Smith and Jacobs labs, who has received a Young Scientist Fellowship worth 3,000 euros from The Society for Carnivorous Plants in Germany (Gesellschaft für Fleischfressende Pflanzen e.V.) for her MSc thesis research project, "Are salamanders feeding the bog?: using stable isotopes to unravel a unique case of plant carnivory upon a vertebrate in Algonquin Provincial Park, Canada".  Congratulations Amanda!  You may have heard Amanda earlier this fall on CBC Radio's Quirks and Quarks talking about her summer at the Algonquin Wildlife Resear

Congratulations to Maria Dolan, winner of the Dr. Erika Gaertner Scholarship in Botany

Congratulations to Maria Dolan, one of this year's recipients of the Dr. Erika Gaertner Scholarship in Botany. The Dr. Erika Gaertner Scholarship was established to encourage young scientists passionate about botany. Selection is based on the highest combined average of any two of the BOT courses. In the event of a tie, the three students with the highest average in the last academic semester will be selected. No application required.

Six new scholars awarded Arrell Scholarships

Six new scholars have earned the prestigious Arrell Scholarships this year, representing a range of agri-food expertise. The Arrell Scholars program provides $50,000 per year  to graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence as well as an effort to build a healthier, more sustainable and more just food system. As part of the scholarship each student will participate in an applied learning program where they will hone valuable leadership skills and build stronger networks in the agri-food sector.
