Entomological Society of Canada Award Winners

Congratulations to Integrative Biology undergraduate students Cristina Garrido Cortes (3rd yr WBC), Ellen Richard (3rd yr ZOO), Natasha Welch (4th yr WBC) and Chelsie Xavier-Blower (3rd yr WBC) who attended the 152nd annual meeting of the Entomological Society of Canada last weekend and won a special undergraduate award for presentations on their research investigating the effects of forestry on fly communities in Algonquin Park. CONGRATULATIONS on making a splash at their first conference!

MSc Student Awarded Genome Prize for Research Excellence

Integrative Biology MSc student Kate Pare won the Genome Prize for Research Excellence at the Sixth International Barcode of Life Conference. Kate's presentation on "By-passing the taxonomic impediment in Neotropical Collembola to measure changes in diversity and phylogenetic structure" won her the $500 prize for student oral presentations at the meeting attended by more than 600 researchers from more than 50 nations.

Middleton Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

Please join us in congratulating Tony Kess, the recipient of the Middleton Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for the 2014-2015 year. The Middleton Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is awarded for outstanding performance as a teaching assistant. Congratulations Tony! The Department would also like to recognize Lauren Overdyk and Lisa Harris, nominees for this award and thank them for their commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching at the University of Guelph.
