(Internal) Nutrigenomics Analyses in the Guelph Family Health Study

Advisor: David Ma, Human Health & Nutritiional Sciences and Sanjeena Dang, Carleton University

Proposed co-advisor (UoG): TBC

The Guelph Family Health Study is a long-term study of families with young children including nearly 350 families from the Guelph and surrounding areas. The objective is to develop new strategies for obesity prevention. Towards this goal, personalized strategies for effective health promotion and disease prevention are needed. To date, genotyping of a subset of 560 family participants (199 dyads of parents + 1 child) comprised of 1.9M snps has been completed. Students will have the potential to examine the association of SNPS across multiple domains linking nutrition (sugar, sodium, other nutrients) to physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep, anthropometrics, and other health outcomes. Students will become part of a team of 10 faculty investigators and over 20+ active trainees. The trainee will work directly with Dr. David Ma (Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, UofG) and Dr. Sanjeena Dang (CRC in Data Science & Analytics, School of Mathematics and Statistics, Carleton University).
