Opportunities for students

The Bio-Renewable Innovation Lab at the School of Engineering, University of Guelph is hiring PhD students with research experience in biomass/waste conversion and bioproduct development. There are currently 3 PhD positions available. The technology to convert wet waste into valuable hydrocarbon fuels, materials, and chemicals becomes promising, and this relies on unique advancements in fuel processing engineering and waste industry design. The research will undertake studies on the process and technology to convert biomass waste into a varying range of hydrocarbons to optimize the process. The research requires both modelling and experimental studies to analyze the flexibility of the waste-to-energy process and the fuel properties of hydrocarbons as well as chemicals. The selected candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting a broad range of biomass conversion and biofuel, biochemical and biomaterials production activities.

Highly qualified candidates interested in joining the research group as a PhD student are welcome to send their resume and transcripts to Professor Animesh Dutta by email

Candidates from Mechanical or Chemical Engineering discipline with strong background in chemistry, heat transfer, and modelling with previous publication(s) in Q1 journals are preferred.  A minimum of A- Guelph Equivalent from their most recent study is required for the PhD positions. International applicants can check the International Credential Guidelines to verify that they meet the requirement.

We thank all interested applicants. However, only selected candidates will be contacted.
