Rafael M. Santos, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Dr. Rafael Santos is Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering at the University of Guelph, and is a registered Professional Engineer of Ontario.
Dr. Santos obtained B.A.Sc. (Hons) and M.A.Sc. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto (Canada), and a Ph.D. (s.c.l.) degree in Chemical Engineering from the KU Leuven (Belgium).
Dr. Santos has also worked at Zenon Environmental, Vale Inco, and Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.
Dr. Santos’s areas of expertise include CO2 sequestration/utilization, solid waste and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, process intensification, applied mineralogy and geochemistry.
Some recent projects include conversion of carbon dioxide into building materials, stabilization and valorization of iron- and steel-making slags, synthesis of zeolitic heavy metal sorbents, and sonochemical precipitation of carbonates.
