Apply for Access to Research Stations and Personnel

Researchers and industry partners may access OMAFRA-supported research stations and technicians by applying for either Tier II, Tier III or Tier IV research funding.

Tier II: Subsidized access to OMAFRA-funded resources (Research Priorities)

Tier II research funding provides subsidized access to OMAFRA-supported technicians and research stations. Tier II projects must address OMAFRA research priorities. OMAFRA subsidizes 92 per cent of the applicable Research Station Fees for Tier II projects. The remaining eight percent must be covered by external partner funding.

Tier III: Subsidized access to OMAFRA-funded resources (Public Good Priorities)

Tier III research funding provides subsidized access to OMAFRA-supported technicians and research stations. Tier III projects differ from Tier II projects because they are not required to meet OMAFRA funding priorities. Instead, these projects must address broader government priorities, i.e., those deemed to meet federal or provincial 'public good' priorities. OMAFRA approves the use of the requested research station and/or technical resource upon submission of the Tier III application.

OMAFRA subsidizes 92 per cent of the applicable Research Station Fees for successful Tier III projects. The remaining eight percent must be covered by external partner funding.

Tier IV: Non-subsidized access to OMAFRA-funded resources

Tier IV research funding provides industry partners non-subsidized access to OMAFRA-supported technicians and research stations. Tier IV funding grants users access to the requested research station or resources, but does not provide funding to subsidize access fees.

The Alliance will use a NEW online application system called Next Generation Research Management System (NG-RMS) for receiving and adjudicating Tier II, III, and IV applications.

NG-RMS is a web-based program currently under development. NG-RMS will launch the week of October 7th, 2019. Check back for more information.

If applying prior to October 7, please contact the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance Research Programs Coordinator at rescoord@uoguelph.ca for an application form.

Research Station Fees

Researchers proposing to use the research stations must include the appropriate Research Station Fees in their proposal budgets.

See our Research Station Fees Price List for more information.

Fees for the Central Animal Facility and Isolation Unit are also available for download but these facilities do not require a Tier II application.
