International Women’s Day 2024: Inspiring Inclusion in the College of Arts, Across Campus, and Around the World

This month, we celebrate International Women’s Day, which is recognized annually on March 8. This day of collective global activism aims to commend women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, and take action to drive gender parity. The 2024 theme is #InspireInclusion – collectively forging a more inclusive world for women everywhere.

Guelph’s Inaugural Music Preview Day

Last Sunday, the College of Arts at the University of Guelph hosted its inaugural Music Preview Day at the Arts Research Centre (ARC). It was an exciting event that provided applicants to the College’s Music program with a glimpse into the wide range of unique learning opportunities the program offers.

The event included an array of special guests, including :

· Dr. Kimberly Francis, director of Interdisciplinary Programs and professor, Music

· Mary Meads, U of G Music Alumnus, certified music therapist, and registered psychotherapist

Nominations Open for Carl Rom Colthoff Experiential Learning Award

The College of Arts is thrilled to announce the nomination period is open for the Carl Rom Colthoff Experiential Learning Award, administered by the Experiential Learning Hub at the University of Guelph. This award, generously established by U of G Alumnus Carl Rom Colthoff, aims to recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community engagement through their participation in University-organized experiential learning opportunities.

Black History Month: Opportunities for Reflection and Growth at the College of Arts

During Black History Month and every day, we encourage our community to engage with opportunities to reflect upon the past, recognize where we are now, and resolve to build a stronger future for everyone. This month, the College of Arts is proud to play an active role in various events to encourage every member of the U of G community to collectively listen, engage, and learn about Black Canadian history. 

Arts Faculty Launch New Book About Creative Women of the "Lost Generation"

Dr. Kimberly Francis (SOFAM, Interdisciplinary programs) and Dr. Margot Irvine (SOLAL) published their edited book, Creative Women of the “Lost Generation," Women in the Arts in the Wake of the Great War.

The book explores the creative women of the "Lost Generation" including painters, sculptors, film makers, writers, singers, composers, dancers, and impresarios who all pursued artistic careers in the years leading up to, during, and following World War I.
