Where are they Wednesday: Jason Wilson

Dr. Jason Wilson completed his Master’s in History at the University of Guelph in 2003, and later completed his PhD in History in 2013 with interests in music, WW1, hockey, and Canadiana. His music has been described as “Folk-Reggae” or “Global-Roots,” which has earned him two Juno Award nominations. The first nomination was in 2001 for Best Reggae Recording for Jonah, and his second was in 2009 for Best Reggae recording for The Peacemaker’s Chauffeur. He was the protégé of Studio One keyboardist Jackie Mittoo and has performed and recorded with UB40, Alanis Morissette, Sly & Robbie, Ron Sexsmith, among others. He has performed in festivals across Canada, including the Vancouver Folk Festival, Hillside Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, and performed for over 2,500 audiences around the world. Wilson has published four books, with his most recent being Soldiers of Song: The Dumbells and other Canadian Concert Parties of the First World War (2012). Currently, Dr. Wilson is an Adjunct-Professor of History here at the University of Guelph and is also a Sessional Lecturer at Guelph-Humber.
