Laura Marotta graduated from the Master of Fine Arts program in 2011, after completing her Honours Studio Art degree from McMaster University in 2007. Shortly after receiving her Masters’, Laura began teaching in various sessional roles at the University of Guelph, University of Toronto Scarborough, McMaster University and Sheridan College. In 2016, Laura had the opportunity to participate in a one-month residency in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, Mexico called the Obracadobra Artist Residency. Her sculptures have been in public institutions such as the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the McMaster Museum of Art, the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Art Gallery of Burlington, the Art Gallery of Guelph and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Laura has been granted several esteemed awards, such as the Visual Artists: Emerging Grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Most recently, Laura was awarded the Exhibition Assistant Grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2018. Her current solo exhibition, New Balance, opens this Thursday, November 7th from 5:00-8:00pm at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery. The show will be running until December 21st.
