Two researchers in the College of Business and Economics, Dean Julia Christensen Hughes and professor Timothy Dewhirst were recently featured in national media. Christensen Hughes was interviewed by CBC about modern technology and its patent role in cheating and Dewhirst authored an op-ed for the Globe and Mail discussing Scotiabank’s deal for the Air Canada Centre’s naming rights.

On CBC’s The Current Christensen Hughes shared her perspective on how modern technology affects academic dishonesty. She stated that while technology has increased the risk of students cheating, the key message of her research is not about punishment but rather creating a culture that promotes integrity.

Dewhirst wrote on the recent deal made by Scotiabank for the naming rights of the Air Canada Centre and its plan to rebrand the home of Toronto Maple Leafs and the Raptors. In his op-ed “Will Scotiabank get enough bang for its arena buck?” he notes that while Scotiabank’s goal of brand awareness is justifiable, he is concerned about how owning the naming rights will enhance the brand image.
