Be The Change

The School of Computer Science is proud to announce that three SoCS students and their community partners were awarded the University of Guelph's Student Life's Be The Change award, and the Emilie Hayes Community Partnership award.

Hacking For Mental Health Success

This weekend 50+ students from across campus gathered to develop solutions to support positive mental health at the Guelph Hacks for Mental Health Hackathon. Working in teams of 2 to 4 students, participants developed tools to improve communication of existing on-campus services, built apps to encourage coping strategies with peers, or implemented tools to assist in the delivery of mental health services.

Guelph Tech Showcase 4.0

The School of Computer Science, Guelph Tech and Design, Innopshere, and Sandbox Software are hosting the fourth Guelph Technology Showcase in the Science Complex Atrium on Wednesday March 11th from 5 to 7pm. The event is a celebration of the local information technology community, and features a variety of local computer-based businesses and large organizations with IT departments. Students and visitors welcome!

SoCS Graduate Open House

Are you interested in learning more about the Graduate Programs offered by the School of Computer Science? Join us Thursday March 19th, 2015 from 5:30pm-7:30pm to learn more. The event will be held in Reynolds 114. Meet with faculty and current grad students to learn about the programs in SoCS.

Success At Pitch For Progress

During the weekend of February 21st, the University of Guelph hosted the 10th Annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Conference. As part of the weekend, students were challenged to pitch ideas that could change the world.

School of Computer Science students Aftab Ahmad, Nic Durish, and Justin Gruber, joined forces with Food Science student Lauren Jans to pitch their winning idea - the Smartbin. For their efforts they were awarded top prize and $2000.

Roboticon 2015 – Registration Now Open!

Roboticon is back for the 14th year at College Royal at the University of Guelph! The School of Computer Science would like to invite you to Roboticon 2015. This year's robot-building and programming challenge will be occurring on Saturday, March 21st & Sunday, March 22nd, 2015 at the University of Guelph.

SoCS Prof Making Headlines

Assistant Professor Rozita Dara was interviewed on January 31 by CBC News as part of a story on Bill C-51.

Rozita, a former employee of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, studies Transparency Enhancing Technology and bridging the gap between policy and technology.

Internet Privacy Issues Highlighted In The Guelph Mercury

Assistant Professor Rozita Dara's research on internet privacy was featured in an article in the January 23rd edition of the Guelph Mercury; a few days in advance of Data Privacy Day. Dr. Dara has been studying various aspects of internet privacy including Transparency Enhancing Technology and bridging the gap between policy and technology since 2010.
