College of Business and Economics welcomes new faculty

U of G business students will see some new faces around campus this fall. The College of Business and Economics is excited to welcome seven new faculty members to various academic units within the college.

See below for a brief biography on our new faculty:

Rogier Holtermans, Assistant Professor

Area of specialization: Real estate and sustainability

Rogier will be joining the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies on July 1st. He has his PhD in Finance from Maastricht University in The Netherlands and his research is in sustainability and real estate finance.

Amirali Kani, Assistant Professor

Amirali will be joining the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies on July 1st. He completed his PhD at the Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University. He also has an MSc from Pennsylvania State and an MBA from the Sharif University of Technology. His research interests broadly cover modeling dynamics in relevant marketing problems.

Nadège Levalett, Assistant Professor

Nadège will be joining the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management on July 1st and will champion innovation in the management capstone strategy course. Nadège has her PhD in Management Information Systems with an emphasis in strategy and innovation from Queen’s University. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Ohio University.

DeLong Li, Assistant Professor

DeLong will be joining the Department of Economics and Finance on July 1st. He is a PhD Candidate at John Hopkins University and is expected to complete his PhD this month. His research is in macroeconomics, corporate finance, international finance and financial development.

Norm O’Reilly, Assistant Dean Executive Programs

Norm will commence his new role July 1st as Assistant Dean, Executive Programs. Since 2014, Norm has been the Fox Professor of Business at Ohio University, where he is also the Chair of the Department of Sports Administration, serving as program director for both the Bachelor of Sports Management degree and the Masters of Sports Administration. Norm is a prolific scholar having authored 8 books and 104 refereed journal articles; he has received several best paper and other awards.

Daniela Senkl, Assistant Professor

Daniela will join the Department of Management on August 1st. Daniela has her PhD in Business Administration and has extensive experience teaching various accounting courses.

Simon Somogyi, Associate Professor and Arrell Chair in the Business of Food

Simon will be joining the College of Business and Economics September 10th, in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management. Simon is coming from Dalhousie University, where he is currently an Associate Professor in Agri-Food Value Chain Management.


It is also bittersweet news that the College of Business and Economics has announced that Associate Dean (Academic) Kerry Godfrey will be leaving the University of Guelph to become the Dean of Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge. Kerry first joined the University of Guelph in 2008 as Director of the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.  Since 2012 he has served as the Associate Dean (Academic), during which time he has been an ardent supporter of teaching effectiveness, pedagogical innovation and curriculum reform.  He also provided vital leadership for several key strategic initiatives, including the completion of our successful iSER (self-study report) last summer. Congratulations, Kerry!
