Thanks to the generosity of Lang business alumnus Daniel F. Engels, a new bursary has been created to support Québec students who choose to study at the University of Guelph.

Through a one-time donation by Daniel, the Québec Undergraduate Student Bursary will provide $4,000 in funding each year in perpetuity. Students from Québec, who are registered in a minimum of 2.0 credits from any program, are eligible.

Originally from Montréal, Québec, Daniel attended the University of Guelph and graduated from the HAFA program in 1978. As a U of G student, he fondly remembers a great student experience but recalls not meeting many other students from Québec. Through his donation, Daniel hopes that the new bursary will help Québec students consider the U of G and benefit from the university experience it offers.

Daniel spent much of his career in finance and tech-focused roles, working in senior positions in financial applications for Oracle and Maple Leaf Foods. His philanthropic values originate from his childhood, watching his parents volunteer their time and donate to causes important to them.

Daniel carries on the tradition, placing a high value on philanthropy and volunteerism. In 2016, Daniel was part of a team that sponsored a Syrian family to Canada. Daniel continues to maintain regular involvement with the family, helping the two young boys with homework and taking them to swimming lessons and basketball.
