For the third consecutive time, the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics has been named a Champion of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) for another two-year period, for the 2020-2022 cycle.

The Lang School is one of only 36 global business schools to be recognized with this distinction, and one of only two in Canada.

Schools are recognized for their commitment to leadership in responsible management education in the context of the United Nations sustainable development agenda.

Over the next two-year cycle, the Lang School will continue to support the PRME Champions’ initiatives and work with other institutions across the world to define leadership in the space of responsible management education.

“We are delighted to continue to be recognized as a business school committed to responsible business on a global stage,” said professor Rumina Dhalla, Associate Professor and Sustainability Coordinator at Lang. “Our vision is to develop ‘Leaders for a Sustainable World’ and we strive to achieve this through the integration of sustainable business practices into our programs, research, and organizational lives.”

To be considered, the Lang School was required to submit an application detailing the activities the school has completed during the last cycle and identify their goals for the 2020-2022 cycle.

PRME officially announced the Champion schools at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland in January. Also at WEF, the Lang School received the honour of being named one of nine “Transformational Schools” by the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) for Business Schools, a new global rating system that explores the social impact of their students and graduates.

The PIR includes 30 schools in the 2020 ranking, with the Lang School as the only Canadian school to be named “Transformational”.

Lang has a long tradition of student engagement in sustainable-focused student clubs and case competitions. Lang’s Net Impact Graduate Chapter recently received Gold Status based on their activities, programming, membership, and community contributions. According to Net Impact, Gold Status is awarded to Chapters that build on its mission of developing leaders who actively contribute to creating a more sustainable world.

In 2019, Lang’s MBA in Sustainable Commerce was ranked among the global top 20 by the Corporate Knights Better World ranking.
