Lang’s recruitment event returns with one-on-one virtual networking

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Lang’s largest winter semester recruitment event will return this week with over 26 employers registered to meet and network with Lang business students. Although the Commerce Job Expo will take place virtually this year, the online setting will still provide students with the opportunity to network with employers and make one-on-one connections.

The virtual event will use Symplicity, an online platform that allows students to connect directly with employers. There will be two ways students and employers can connect: group chat rooms and one-on-one chats.

The chat rooms provide a space for recruiters to connect with a group of students interested in their organization to discuss their opportunities and answer frequently asked questions. The one-on-one chats will focus on providing the opportunity for students and employers to have a private one-on-one video conversation. Students who register for the event will have the chance to select which employers they want to have one-on-one networking chats with.

“Amid all the challenges during the pandemic, it is even more important to provide opportunities for students and employers to connect,” said Mary-Anne Moroz, Manager, Business Career Development Centre. “The good news is that organizations are hiring for both summer and full-time jobs, and they are looking for ways to engage with Lang students seeking employment. This virtual job expo provides this opportunity when in-person events are not permitted at this time.”

This year’s event will feature a ix of loyal employers who have been hiring at Lang for many years, as well as new employers eager to meet with Lang students from across majors. Employers will include:

  • Altus Group
  • Blue Mountain Resort
  • Bristol Capital Management

Lang’s Business Career Development Centre will also have a virtual booth at the event for students looking to learn more about their programs and access a range of career services. The event takes place this Wednesday, January 27th from 11 am to 1 pm. Registration is required. Lang students can still register online.

Here’s what some of the employers are saying about Lang students:

“Marriott International is excited to participate in the University of Guelph’s Career Expo for the Lang School of Business. As our industry is currently experiencing unprecedented challenges, we still have remained focused on our future talent pipeline. The University of Guelph’s Lang School has continually developed some of the best leaders in the country and we are excited to continue the partnership for many years to come,” - Marissa Solomita, Senior Manager, University Relations and Recruiting - The Americas, Marriott International

"Deerhurst Resort continues to participate in the annual Job Expo at the University of Guelph for two reasons. The students within the targeted programs we hire from are simply outstanding and a perfect match for our company. The other reason is the program itself which includes a coop and the support staff at UOG that assist with all our recruiting needs, job posting, and interviews. The entire experience dealing with this job expo is seamless, productive and provides us a quality applicant,” – Brody Purser, Director of Human Resources, Deerhurst Resort

“Piping Rock Club has been hiring students from the University of Guelph since 2013 and attended career fairs since 2016.  We have found that the student body is made up of hard-working students who are eager to learn.   Unfortunately, we cannot visit this year, but look forward to a great summer and returning up there again in 2022,” - Robert Gasperetti, Human Resource Director, Piping Rock Club

“The University of Guelph’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics offers a diverse selection of learning and development programs for its stuents.  Over the years we have discovered some great talent through our partnership with the UofG, with some UofG alumni now holding leadership positions within our organization.  We look forward to continuing to support Guelph students this year too!” - Jaclyn Williams, Recruitment and Retention Manager, Kananaskis Mountain Lodge
