Five new faculty join Lang

On July 1st, five new faculty members will join the Lang School. Drs. Heather Kennedy and Katie Lebel will join Lang and focus on advancing the Sport and Event Management major within the BComm program. The Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies will also welcome new faculty Leslie Legge, Drs. Sourav Ray and Hai Tran.


Heather Kennedy

 

 

Heather Kennedy, Assistant Professor (Sport and Event Management) – Department of Management

Dr. Kennedy earned her PhD in 2020 from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA in 202 and completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Lang in 2021. Her research focuses on optimizing the use of technology by sport consumers and organizations. She also has a strong background in sport and brings expertise in predictive analytics and social media engagement to Lang, supporting the growing field of sport analytics.


Katie Lebel

 

Katie Lebel, Assistant Professor (Sport and Event Management) – Department of Management

Dr. Lebel earned her PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Western in 2013. She spent three years teaching sport management at St. John's University, one of North America's most established Sport Management programs, then joined Ryerson University as Assistant Professor, Ted Rogers School of Management where she developed sport business curriculum. Her research explores innovative disruption in sport, new sport business models, and she is a member of the Gender Equity in Sport Research Hub. She brings expertise in digital media and sport engagement, supporting the growing field of sport analytics.


Leslie Legge

 

Leslie Legge, Assistant Professor (Real Estate) – Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies

Leslie is an alumna of the Real Estate and Housing major here at the University of Guelph and earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfrid Laurier University. She brings nine years of experience in commercial real estate with Loblaw Inc. and Cadillac Fairview and was responsible for promoting the future of sustainable green vehicles while on the University of Waterloo’s communication committee. Leslie’s connection to industry and eye for sustainability will help Lang continue to inspire students.


Sourav Ray

 

Sourav Ray, Lang Chair in Marketing – Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies

Dr. Ray earned his PhD in Marketing from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He is currently the Michael Lee‐Chin & Family Professor in Strategic Business Studies, Professor of Marketing, and Research Director of the Marketing and Supply Chain Analytics lab at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. He also serves as a Senior Editor for the journal E-Commerce Research and Applications (ECRA) and supervises several doctoral students. His research interest is in exploring strategic marketing issues in B2B, distribution channels, pricing, emerging technologies, and technology intensive markets. His research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Monetary Economics, and Journal of Law and Economics among others.


Hai Tran

Hai Tran, Assistant Professor (Law) – Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies

Hai is a graduate of Lang, completing both her M.Sc. in marketing and consumer studies and B.Comm. in marketing management. She then went on to successfully complete her Juris Doctorate from Osgoode Hall of Law and has been practicing law in Guelph. She has previously  taught undergraduate courses for the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies in law and entrepreneurship and in her new role, she will be responsible for teaching law related courses within Lang. She will also be supporting our alumni, student recruitment and related activities.
