Posted on Monday, September 23rd, 2013

The University of Guelph’s College of Management and Economics (CME) is pleased to announce that the Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) has generously donated a gift of $75,000 to fund the CGA/CME Career Centre pilot project. The key impact of this initiative will be to seed the start of a career centre and activity specifically focused on supporting the career development of CME graduates and future alumni.

Over the next year, CME will hire a Career Centre Manager, whose key responsibilities will involve identifying and cultivating strategic business relationships, researching job trends and labour market data, developing career services for students, and promoting awareness of our distinct student talent.

“We have been continuously impressed by the calibre of business graduates from the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph and are proud to make this investment in their career services,” said Erin McDonald, CGA, Business Development Manager for CGA Ontario. “We look forward to seeing how this pilot project develops over the coming year.”

“On behalf of the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph, I would like to sincerely thank CGA Ontario for this generous gift,” said Julia Christensen Hughes, Dean, College of Management and Economics. “We are excited to start developing the CGA/CME Career Centre and creating opportunities for our students to connect with prospective employers and enhance their career advancement skills.”

For the College of Management and Economics, this initiative marks another step in its growth as one of Canada’s top business schools. With an emphasis on sustainability, and social and ethical responsibility, CME is a unique pipeline for emerging business talent. The CGA/CME Career Centre will provide another opportunity for CME to extend its reach beyond the campus and foster relationships and partnerships with organizations and alumni, thereby building a valuable resource for students.
