In this story from CBC News, College of Business and Economics Dean Julia Christensen Hughes comments on the realities of cheating at Canadian universities. CBC conducted a survey of Canadian universities that showed more than 6,800 students were disciplined for academic misconduct. In the interview, Dean Christensen Hughes states that there is a huge gap between these numbers and the rate at which students admit to cheating, which according to a 2006 study is more than 50 per cent of undergraduate students and 35 per cent of graduate students.

University of Guelph students looking to grow their business and social enterprises now have an opportunity to apply for dedicated space, funding, mentoring and more through the Centre for Business and Social Entrepreneurship’s (CBaSE) new Hub Incubator Program.

Warren Jestin, noted economist, U of G alumnus and inaugural economist-in-residence in the Department of Economics and Finance, will receive an honorary doctorate at winter convocation on February 20. Jestin, who is an economist with Scotiabank, graduated in 1971 with an MA in economics. He will receive his honorary doctorate at the 4 p.m. ceremony.

Cruises to the Arctic and Antarctic are gaining momentum as more people become interested in learning about the Earth's northern and southern extremes. Brittany Manley, a student in the College of Business and Economics' new MSc Tourism and Hospitality program, is conducting research she hopes will help expedition companies better tailor their cruises to prospective travellers. The College of Business and Economics (formerly College of Management and Economics) proudly unveiled new branding today that places a greater emphasis on its distinctive business programs. Also included in this rebrand are new names for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management – now the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management – and Department of Business – which is now the Department of Management.

The University of Guelph is set to host the National Food Security Forum at the Guelph Delta Conference Centre February 19 to 20. Sponsored by the U of G's Food Institute, the event will unite Canadian academics, industry professionals and other speakers and will be co-chaired by Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, Associate Dean and Professor of the U of G's business school.
