Canada Research Chairs
The Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program is a key component of a national strategy to position Canada as a global leader in research and development. With an annual investment of approximately $311 million ($5 million per year at the University of Guelph), the program attracts and retains world-class researchers, enhancing academic research and training at Canadian postsecondary institutions.
Chairholders aim to achieve research excellence in engineering and the natural sciences, health sciences, humanities and social sciences. Their work deepens knowledge, improves quality of life, bolsters Canada’s international competitiveness and contributes to the training of the next generation of highly skilled professionals through student mentorship, teaching and research coordination.
Tier 1
Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years.
