New field crop pathology expertise at Ridgetown Campus

U of G’s Ridgetown Campus has added a world-class field crop pathologist to its teaching and research repertoire. Leading pathologist, Dr. Gursahib Singh is Ridgetown’s new Grain Farmers of Ontario Professorship in Field Crop Pathology. Dr. Singh joins the University of Guelph from Irrigation Saskatchewan (formerly ICDC) where he served as Research Director.

The new position is supported by a $2-million gift from the Grain Farmers of Ontario.

U of G weeds team wins it all as sole Canadian university at U.S. competition

A team of 24 University of Guelph students took part in the NorthEastern Weed Science Collegiate Contest at the NCSU Education Farm in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The U of G students were tested on their skills and knowledge in plant identification, herbicide symptomology diagnostic, sprayer calibration and agronomy problem-solving.

U of G co-leading first national training program in One Health to prepare leaders for next pandemic

A new six-year training program co-led by researchers at the University of Guelph will use a One Health approach to build national capacity for the next pandemic – the first training of its kind in Canada.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research awarded U of G and other university, government and non-governmental organization partners $2.7 million to co-create the new bilingual training program, titled the Canadian One Health Training Program on Emerging Zoonoses (COHTPEZ). 

U of G researchers share findings from rural Ontario labour force shortage survey

Rural businesses are finding it more difficult since the pandemic to attract and retain workers, with some sectors--like food services-- experiecing the most difficulty.

These are some of the key findings emerging from an Alliance-funded University of Guelph survey, which is part of a multi-year research initiative examining labour shortages in rural communities called Addressing Labour Shortages through Newcomer Attraction in Rural Ontario
