On "Peter Piper: The Folklore of Nursery Rhymes," Shacker and McDaniels join musician and Sing for Science host Matt Wyhte to discuss the folklore of nursery rhythms. The episode includes discussion covering the relationship between play and language, the backstories to some of the most popular nursery rhythms, and the connection between Peter Piper and DMC’s own musical pursuits. 

 

Professor Dionne Brand was the year's featured speaker for the renown OISE's RWB Jackson Lecture series…

 

On December 8th, Brand was joined by Rinaldo Walcott for "Nomenclature for the time being: a poem, and a conversation." SETS would like to congratulate Brand for the distinguished achievement.

Professor Judith Thompson's theatre workshops (THST3190 and THST4190) are premiering their play, Catastrophe over Youtube on December 10th at 7pm.

The School of English and Theatre Studies is honoured to provide the opportunity to support the Doug Killam Tribute Fund, which is now posted on the Alumni Affairs and Development webpage. The fund was started to recognize Killam's distinguished scholarship, and steadfast belief in the importance of inviting Canadian and International writers to campus to enrich students' lives. 

 

The fund page also includes a wonderful tribute written by Mary Rubio who has been absolutely marvelous in providing information about Doug and the illustrious life he lead.

(Tim) Struthers is the editor of two new essay collections published by Guernica Editions focused on writer Alice Munro, the first Canadian, the first short story writer, and at the time only the thirteenth woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
