HAFA HFTM Alumni Association Hosts a Fall Social: A Night of Community, Celebration, and Recognition
The HAFA HFTM Alumni Association brought together alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the School for a memorable Fall Social on campus, an evening defined by connection, celebration, and a strong sense of community spirit.

The event opened with warm remarks from Mark Holmed, Director of the School, who set the tone for the night by highlighting the School's achievements and ongoing commitment to student and alumni success. Lora Bender, Alumni Association Chair, followed with a warm welcome, expressing gratitude to attendees, acknowledging the Board of Directors, and recognizing several members who could not be present. The Board members acknowledged included:
- Christian Cross, Vice-President
- Adam Fikis, Past President
- Daniel Chang, Director of Finance
- HTMSA Co-Presidents: Ava Overholt and Charlotte Van Norstrand
Lora also announced two exciting opportunities to get involved, as the Association is seeking volunteers for the roles of Director of Communications and Director of Events, positions that offer alumni the chance to shape experiences and strengthen community connections.

Celebrating Excellence: Alumni Award Recipients Revealed
A highlight of the evening was the highly anticipated Alumni Awards Announcement, with formal presentations to take place at Careers Night in 2026. This year's recipients represent the very best of the School's legacy, leaders, innovators, and changemakers in the hospitality and tourism sector.
Leaders of Tomorrow Award - Monika Kruszka
Recognized for her remarkable leadership and professionalism, Monika Kruszka has made an extraordinary impact early in her career. Now Executive Chef and Manager of PJ's Restaurant, Monika is credited with driving operational innovation, fostering student engagement, and elevating the School's culinary presence. Her dedication and passion continue to inspire both students and fellow alumni.
Leadership & Entrepreneurial Award - Rachel Baque, Class of 2001
With a dynamic international career spanning Canada, Australia, and Fiji, Rachel Baque has built a reputation for excellence in sales, marketing, and revenue management. Currently Head of Customer Success, North America at Event Temple, Rachel has demonstrated career-long commitment to innovation and mentorship, giving back to the School through alumni leadership and industry engagement.
George D. Bedell Award - Tim O'Connor, Class of 1984
The prestigious George D. Bedell Award was presented to Tim O'Connor for his decades of leadership, professionalism, and community involvement. From building a distinguished career with McDonald's Canada to becoming a franchise owner and an active community volunteer, Tim exemplifies the values of the School and the lasting impact of its alumni.

The evening concluded with remarks from Christian Cross, who thanked attendees for their ongoing support and encouraged continued engagement with the Association. Excitement peaked as guests enjoyed door prizes and connected with peers and mentors across generations.
