Emily Martin was born in Bruce County, Ontario and spent her childhood on the family beef and hog farm.  Her family moved to Kitchener when she was a teenager where she completed her high school education.  After graduating with her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College, she enrolled in an MSc program in the Department of Pathobiology, OVC, under the supervision of Dr. Bruce Hunter.  The focus of her MSc project was "E. coli in tom turkeys and their environment". After completing her MSc, Emily accepted a position as an Avian and Fur-bearing Pathologist at the Animal Health Laboratory, where she has worked since 2000. During her time at the lab, Dr. Martin was successful in obtaining her board certification with the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.

            Emily provides veterinary diagnostic and consultative services to the poultry industry as well as other agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.  She also collaborates with various faculty at the University of Guelph in support of teaching and research.
