Felipe was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. He was enrolled in the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) graduating in Veterinary Medicine in 1992. He then became a Faculty member at the UCV in biochemistry, while earning his MSc in 1997 studying the epidemiology of rotaviruses in horses. After this, he obtained his PhD at the OVC in 2005 looking at host-virus interactions and molecular epidemiology of the feline immunodeficiency virus. He taught Clinical Pathology at OVC for 3 years, and passed the Clinical Pathology certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2008.

After working as a full time Clinical Pathologist in the private industry in Toronto for nearly 7 years, Felipe returned to the University of Guelph to join the Animal Health Laboratory in 2016, working as a Clinical Pathologist with a strong interest in Toxicology. He enjoys music and woodworking, in particular making wooden toys.
