Murray Hazlett graduated from OVC in1979 and worked in a mixed practice in southern Ontario for 2 years. This was followed by a pathology residency at Guelph, where he obtained his DVSc in anatomic pathology in 1984 doing work on canine heart disease and bovine mastitis. At this time, he became board-certified in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He joined the VLSB in 1984 as an anatomic pathologist. He was closely involved in computerization of the lab in 1987 followed by migration to a new lab information management system in 1997; and developed a veterinary diagnostic pathology coding system that is used by veterinary laboratories in Canada and the USA.
Murray’s duties include diagnostic pathology doing postmortem examination and histopathology of food-producing and companion animals. He is supervisor of the histotechnology laboratory and collaborates with external laboratories and researchers giving advice on projects that are using the histotechnology lab.
