Details
College of Biological Science staff, faculty and graduate students are invited to Decolonizing and Indigenizing the CBS Classroom, on Thursday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the McLaughlin Library, Whitelaw Room 246/248.
Supported by members of HHNS, IB and MCB and sponsored by the ADA office, this event will be led by Brad (Nimkii) Howie, founder of Manoomin Learning, Professor at Niagara College and an alumnus of the University of Guelph, with support from Cara Loft, Educational Developer for Indigenous Knowledges, Office of Teaching and Learning. Some of you may remember when he was the Anishinaabe Environmental Educator at the University of Guelph Arboretum or a past speaker at COESP Day. We are excited to have him back for this event as a collaborator, keynote and session facilitator.
This event welcomes educators with any level of Indigenous knowledge or teaching experience and aims to:
- Empower educators by learning about Indigenous people, terminology and ways of knowing, being and doing.
- Introduce Indigenous ways of knowing and teaching and engage participants in the initial steps toward incorporating them
- Explore relations between Indigenous and western science, and engage participants in the first steps toward meaningfully incorporating Indigenous content.
Please register through this form by Friday, May 30th so we can plan accordingly.
