Research Impact and Performance
Globally recognized for expanding the understanding of life from DNA to complex ecosystems, the College of Biological Science (CBS) at the University of Guelph presents its fifth annual Research Impact and Performance Report.
This document covers the 2024/2025 fiscal year and highlights the contributions of our diverse community of faculty, staff, and students across our three departments and research institutes. To provide a comprehensive view of our performance trajectory, this year’s report benchmarks current data against a five-year average, evaluating twenty distinct metrics across the core themes of Research Funding, Research Excellence and Impact, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Research (SoTL) and Graduate Training.
The reports are prepared by the Office of the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. For more information, please email cbsadr@uoguelph.ca.
Below are some key highlights from each theme. The complete 2024-25 report can be found here (log-in required).

This recognition was complemented by extensive media coverage and strong citation impact, reflecting the College’s growing reputation for influential and collaborative discovery.
SoTL Research
During the 2024-2025 reporting period, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) remained a priority for the College of Biological Science, evidenced by strong engagement from both faculty and staff in research and innovative teaching design. This commitment was reinforced by the Office of Educational Scholarship and Practice (COESP), which provided dedicated funding through various grants and awards to foster educational development. These collective efforts resulted in impactful publications that contributed meaningfully to the broader academic discourse in the social sciences.
