On June 2, the Microbiome Preservation and Analysis Research Centre (MiPARC) will be holding a free half-day symposium at the Arboretum. All faculty, staff and graduate students with an interest in microbiome research are welcome to attend.
The event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Jonathan Gewirtzman from Stanford University, updates about the MiPARC facility and services being offered, as well as a poster competition (with prizes) for graduate students.

MiPARC Symposium Agenda
- 1:00 - 1:10 p.m.: Welcome: Emma Allen-Vercoe, MiPARC Director (10 min.)
- 1:10 - 2:10 p.m.: Keynote Presentation: Jonathan Gewirtzman, Stanford Science Fellow: “The hidden life in trees: tree microbiomes as a frontier for ecology and climate”
- 2:10 - 3 p.m.: MiPARC Services: Emma Allen-Vercoe
- 3 - 3:15 p.m.: Break
- 3:15 - 4:30 p.m.: Poster* and Networking Session
*Poster session spots will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. All students who submit a poster as part of their registration will receive confirmation of their poster spot no later than May 18. Prizes will be awarded in the form of hospitality gift cards: $250 (1st place), $150 (2nd place), and $75 (3rd place).
