CBS Book Club: Braiding Sweetgrass

The Office of Teaching and Learning will be hosting an online book club for CBS this fall around decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation.

Together, we will be reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and exploring conversations around decolonizing sciences and Indigenous sciences. Braiding Sweetgrass uses a unique combination of scientific research, Indigenous knowledge, and Robin Wall Kimmerer’s personal experience to examine humanity’s relationship with the earth today and what can be done to repair it. Kimmerer emphasizes that the current climate crisis and other environmental issues are issues not solely of science, but of spirit and emotion as well.

This book club is open Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students in the College of Biological Science.

At the end of the CBS Book Club, participants will:

• understand how decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation can add value to their work and/or current teaching practice in CBS.
• discover what areas in their work that can integrate decolonization/Indigenization/Reconciliation in a meaningful and culturally appropriate way using Two-Eyed Seeing. 
• be connected to a group of committed allies who can then support one-another outside of the CoP and continue to further DIR work collectively within CBS.
